Dr. Sharyn Edwards, DMA
Pianist Dr. Sharyn Edwards has concertized extensively throughout the Carolinas and Southeastern United States in solo and chamber music recitals. In 1999 she made her New York debut at Weill Hall, Carnegie Hall and her first CD was released on the Musikus Label featuring selections by Scarlatti, Haydn, Debussy, Liszt and Schumann. She was also selected as an artist on the International Artist Alliance Roster. Professional performances include appearing as piano soloist with the Charlotte Symphony, Charlotte Repertory Orchestra, Charleston Symphony, Fayetteville and Wilmington Symphony Orchestras.
During 1989-91 she was a Touring Artist with the North CarolinaTouring Artist Roster. A native of Asheville, North Carolina, Dr. Edwards holds the Doctorate of Music Degree in Piano Performance from the University of South Carolina where she studied with the renowned Raymond Dudley and John Adams. She earned the Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance at the University of Kentucky where she studied with James Bonn, and the Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance as a student of Dr. John P. Adams at Mars Hill University. Coaching experience with John Quincey Bass at the Cincinnati Conservatory, Madame Lili Krauss, Menahem Pressler, Seymour Fink and Ann Schein has greatly enhanced her talents as a clinician-adjudicator, of which she has been in frequent demand by the North Carolina Music Teachers’ Association, as well as teaching master classes at various universities. Dr. Edwards formative training was with Dorothy Krauss. Her students have been prize winners in numerous piano competitions. Dr. Edward was the Lead Instructor of the Music Department at Southeastern Community College and continues to be the Director of the Dr. Sharyn Edwards’ Annual Piano Festival and Competition.
